Hi Thomas i am zakod aka john i am thinking of going to salou to look for work also, I have never worked in catering or hospitality but i have a vast range of experience in landscaping and forestry as well as welding and fabrication and general labouring, Ialso have worked in shops, warehousesand been a stokroom supervisor I have held forklift liciences for 9years and also a certificate in warehousing and distribution. I would be grateful if you or any other members of the forum could give me advice on the possibilities of someone with my experience finding work in salou which i call my second home after holidaying there for the last 12 years till my divorce last year. I look forward to any replies. Zakod.

Hi Thomas and John.
Thank you for posting on the forum. I'm afraid work is difficult to find in Salou at the moment as the season has been very quiet so far and most bars and restaurants are waiting till it gets busier to take on extra staff. The only things I can suggest if you live in Salou or nearby is to call into the British Supermarket on Calle Josep Carner, very near Placa Europa, they may leave you put a card in the window looking for work. Also if you take a walk around Salou once in a while, I have often seen signs outside bars looking for staff.
Good luck :D

Hi it is Thomas here just to ask how are you all doing and how is the weather over there. as over here in Glasgow we have had many days of rain but some sunshine not as much as we would like to have. sorry i have not been on for a short time as i have been very bussy.i am still on the look out for work over there between now and next May in bar and restaurant/s.as i am not in full time employment just now and in hope to be over there as all i am asking for is a start with a new job in a new place with new friends. and i only plan to come over myself for work for many months and i did send yous a few messages but no one has got back to me with all the information that i did ask for about the local benefit office and any back pack rooms as i will not have much in money.that is why i am looking for work with room and meals for as long as i can get it in catering. as when i am over for twelve weeks to sign on for benefit i will be looking for work so i will need the address of back pack cheap rooms and i do hope to come over to a job or end up with a job over there as i am coming over to look for work not for a holiday. i do hope you can be of some help to me as i have alot to give but no one will give me the chance so the longer they dont give me the chance then the longer i am out of work i have so much to give for my age i am a peter pan at heart.will keep in touch with yous. Sorry you haven't had replies Thomas, but the situation here regarding work is probably worse than in the U.K.

Salou's holiday season is from May to October, so that season is oming to an end. It is EXTREMELY unlikely you will find any work here, especially as I expect you do not speak Spanish and there will be tens of thousands of Spansih people looking for work when the Hotels close in a few weeks time.

There is not a Job Centre or Benefits centre here as there is in the U.K. To find out about any benefits, please speak to the British Consulate in Glasgow before you think about leaving.

Time to do a good deed as i did. this i would like to share with you all and just to let you all know what i did on sunday night there. i came out from church and got the bus to go home as i was on the bus there was a man who was so drunk and asleep and he had 9 pounds of his money on the floor and his seat it feel out from his pocket. he was lost and far away from home and in some state that no one on the bus would help him. and anyone could have taken his money. so i seen to him and he was holding up the bus so i made sure all his money was back inside his pocket and seen him safe across to the other side of the road and seen he got on the right bus to take him all the way back home and i said to the driver he has had far to much to drink could you make sure he gets home and you know in me doing that for him it makes me feel good to help someone in need of help now ask yourselfs this how many others would do such a good thing what i did will keep in touch remember to let me know when to put in for the start of the season work for next year thanks again. Thomas
